Global Climate Governance

This legal architecture helped to get the USA and China on board. Both countries have announced to quickly ratify the treaty.

In 2016, UN negotiations will continue. The Paris Agreement needs to be made operational. This includes e.g. rules for transparency and the design of the flexibility mechanisms.
Already the negotiation process has brought important changes in many countries’ climate policies. Because all had to submit their national goals before the Paris conference, many countries have drafted national climate policies for the first time. This has been made possible by a huge effort of cooperation among many countries.

From a company perspective, climate is back on the agenda and three major trends continue: the introduction and expansion of carbon pricing schemes; increased CO2 regulation including rules for monitoring, reporting, and verification; and changing consumption patterns.
